Seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join my client in Yeovil, Somerset on a contract basis.
You will be responsible for the design, development, and testing of mechanical components and systems across a range of applications. You'll apply your deep understanding of engineering principles to design products such as engines, instruments, controls, robots, machines, etc.
You may also be involved in the fabrication, operation, application, installation, and/or repair of mechanical products.

Role: Mechanical Design Engineer (Contract)
Pay: 35-45 per hour (depending on experience) PAYE only plus holiday pay in addition
Location: Yeovil, Somerset
Hours: Monday - Friday, full-time. Once through initial training period, Hybrid working is available: 3 days in Yeovil office, 2 days at home.
Security Clearance: Full BPSS Screening, UK or NATO country passport check, Criminal Records Check, and Drugs Screening.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and systems using CAD tools.
- Create and review technical drawings, specifications, and documentation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineers, production, and procurement.
- Support prototype development and testing processes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical design challenges.
- Ensure designs meet performance, quality, and regulatory requirements.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer in a relevant industry (Aerospace industry preferred).
- Proficient in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor).
- Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Familiar with industry-standard design practices and documentation.
- Ability to work independently, following defined procedures and design criteria.
- Experience in automation, robotics, or precision engineering.
- FEA or simulation experience.
- Knowledge of relevant standards and compliance (ISO, CE marking, etc.).
