A leading manufacturer in Yeovil is looking to recruit a Maintenance Engineer, open to both mechanical and electrical backgrounds. This is a permanent, full-time days-based role offering excellent long-term development opportunities - particularly for mechanically biased engineers who want to become electrically skilled and dual qualified.
The company actively supports training and will fully fund a City & Guilds accredited electrical for the right candidate - a rare opportunity to gain formal electrical qualifications while earning and developing in a secure, well-established business.
Role Overview
You'll be responsible for day-to-day maintenance across a range of plant and production machinery, combining proactive and reactive work. You'll carry out fault-finding, equipment checks, repairs, and installations, ensuring machinery is running safely and efficiently.
The position sits within a close-knit engineering team where collaboration and knowledge sharing are key.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out both electrical and mechanical maintenance and fault finding.
- Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) using the electronic maintenance system.
- Support and lead on machinery breakdowns to minimise downtime.
- Assist with installation and commissioning of new plant and equipment.
- Liaise with production to plan maintenance work with minimal disruption.
- Oversee contractors and ensure safe systems of work are always followed.
- Participate in the on-call rota
Requirements
- Time-served or apprentice-trained in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Confident in mechanical fault finding and repair (hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings, conveyors, motors, etc).
- Ideally some basic electrical understanding - able to use a multimeter and safely isolate systems.
- Willingness to complete a formal electrical upskilling course (fully funded).
- Experience working within a production, manufacturing, or industrial setting.
Desirable
- Any electrical maintenance experience - inverters, motors, sensors, or control panels.
- Welding and fabrication (MIG, TIG, MMA).
- Experience using digital maintenance systems
Benefits
- Competitive salary depending on skill level and qualifications.
- Funded Electrical Multiskilling Course (City & Guilds) worth 7,000-8,000.
- On-call pay to significantly increase take-home earnings.
- 31 days holiday (including Bank Holidays) + your birthday off.
- Free parking across all sites.
- Cycle-to-work scheme, free flu jab, and Westfield Health cover (dental, optical, alternative therapies).
- Pension plan and long-term career development.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a mechanically biased engineer to gain full multi-skilled status, or for an electrical engineer to join a growing, supportive team in a stable days-based position.
