Senior / Principal Geotechnical Engineer

First People Solutions is working with a leading consulting engineer in York who are looking to add a skilled Senior / Principal Geotechnical Engineer to their Civils / Geotechnical team. Our client boasts a strong reputation for delivering high-quality work across a diverse range of projects, including bridges, structures, rail, marine, temporary works, and more.
This is a great opportunity for a technically strong, client-facing engineer ready to take the lead on exciting infrastructure projects.
You'll be involved in design leadership, project delivery, mentoring junior staff, and working directly with clients, contractors, and stakeholders. This is a key role with real impact, autonomy, and career progression.
Key Responsibilities:
- As a Lead Engineer, you will take ownership of the design and analysis of major infrastructure projects
- Provide strategic direction and technical leadership across all stages of project delivery
- Manage client relationships, and ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards
- Develop and maintain strong client partnerships, contributing to business development and securing new opportunities
- Oversee and support a team of engineers and collaborate closely with colleagues across offices throughout the UK
What we're looking for:
- Degree in Geology, Earth Science, Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
- Chartered status (IEng/CEng/CGeol) preferred
- 8 years of experience working within a design engineering environment
- Experience across bridges, tunnels, stations and buildings projects
- Strong technical, leadership & client-facing skills
- Knowledge of relevant geotechnical design software and analysis tools
- Full UK driving licence
