CNC Machinist (CNC Turner / CNC Miller / Precision Engineer)

Location: York, North Yorkshire
Salary: £18.95 – £19.50 per hour (£38,428 – £39,572 per year, DOE)
Hours: 39 hours per week (Mon–Thurs: 8:00am – 5:00pm & Fri: 8:00am – 4:00pm)
Contract: Permanent, full-time
Holidays: 25 days + bank holidays
Overtime: Weekdays 1.33x | Weekends 1.5x

The Opportunity

A long-established precision engineering company in York is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist to join its team. The company is known for delivering high-quality, bespoke engineering projects — from one-off prototypes to production runs — across multiple industries.

This is a permanent position offering structured hours, competitive pay, excellent overtime rates, and the chance to work on varied, technically interesting projects.


Key Responsibilities

  • Set, operate, and program CNC machines (milling, turning, boring, grinding)

  • Interpret CAD drawings and technical documentation with accuracy

  • Use SolidWorks 3D modelling and Fusion 360 programming daily

  • Produce precision components to tight tolerances with high attention to detail

  • Identify and correct non-conforming work, suggesting improvements

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to solve problems and improve processes

  • Maintain accurate documentation in line with company procedures

  • Follow all Health & Safety policies, using PPE and equipment correctly


Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a CNC Machinist, with strong skills in turning and milling

  • Ability to set up and operate multiple CNC machines confidently

  • Competent in reading and interpreting technical drawings and CAD models

  • Proficient in SolidWorks and Fusion 360 (desirable)

  • Knowledge of Mazatrol and Hurco systems (desirable) 
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality work

  • Strong communicator and effective team player

  • Safety-conscious with a proactive and flexible approach
