Reports to: Director of Operations

Responsibilities

To have overall responsibility for the management of the Nursery and to:

  • Be responsible for a team of Childcare Practitioners and to be proactive in team building, staff motivation and developing the staff to their maximum potential. To be a positive role model to the staff
  • To provide a fully inclusive environment for children, staff and parents.
  • To be fully committed to providing a stimulating, safe and caring Nursery environment which enables each child to reach their full potential.
  • To ensure standards outlined in the Early Years Foundation Stage are met and sustained.
  • To ensure compliance of Health, Safety and Welfare standards within the Nursery in conjunction with the H & S Rep.
  • To ensure adequate provision is delivered in all areas, such as catering, cleaning and general maintenance.
  • To promote and market the Nursery and liaise with the Room Leaders and Deputy Manager to ensure maximum occupancy levels.
  • To ensure that satisfactory standards of discipline and behaviour are maintained and deal with any problems accordingly.
  • To ensure that each child is fully equipped to move to the next stage of their care and education.


Principal Duties

  1. To manage a team of Childcare Practitioners to ensure that appropriate standards and behaviour are maintained.
  2. To manage staffing levels and recruit staff accordingly.
  3. To allocate specific additional responsibilities to staff
  4. To be aware of sources of funding and prepare and submit applications, after approval by the Management Board.
  5. To conduct inductions and monitor staff performance during trial periods and on an on-going basis.
  6. To work within the agreed budget for the nursery.
  7. To prepare and submit monthly reports for Management Board Meetings and attend these on a quarterly basis.
  8. To plan and chair staff meetings and attend any other meetings as required. (evenings)
  9. To conduct regular supervisions and annual appraisals with all their staff.
  10. To ensure staff rotas are completed in the correct timescales and approve these.
  11. To be aware of social, emotional, cognitive and physical needs of children, and to ensure provision of a sound developmental programme. To ensure delivery of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
  12. To support the team in ensuring that the children receive the highest standard of care, positively promoting and managing children's behaviour.
  13. To liaise with parents, other professionals and outside organisations, which may involve occasional evenings.
  14. To coordinate initial visits for parents and carers and monitor responses.
  15. To be responsible for developing and delivering a routine which meets the needs of the children. This may include school age children attending an Out of School facility.
  16. To have regard for the individual needs of every child and to ensure that all staff are informed of these needs and follow the appropriate procedures.
  17. To monitor and support the team in maintaining the highest levels of health, safety and hygiene practice in accordance with the EYFS and other relevant legislation.
  18. To be aware of child protection and how to deal with the issues, ensuring York Childcare's Confidentiality Policy is adhered to at all times.
  19. To carry out administrative tasks, including receiving payments, as required.
  20. To work within agreed policies, and ensure York Childcare's policies and procedures are fully implemented.
  21. To be a key holder and accept the associated responsibilities.
  22. To maintain the Nursery's charity account
  23. To oversee development of students on placements.
  24. To ensure optimum occupancy levels are achieved in conjunction with team leaders.
  25. To ensure there is an effective tracking system in place to demonstrate that children are making progress in accordance with Ofsted regulations.
  26. To ensure Ofsted regulations are upheld and that action points are responded to.
  27. To coordinate the work of graduates in the setting and support their work in ensuring children make good progress in all areas of learning.
  28. Any other duties required by the Business Management Team and the Management Board
