Senior Quantity Surveyor - Major Energy Framework (Yorkshire)
Location
: York / Leeds (site-based some travel)
Salary: Circa 60,000 + 6,000-7,000 travel allowance + package

I am currently working on behalf of a leading UK main contractor to recruit a Senior Quantity Surveyor for a long-term, high-profile framework with National Grid, delivering critical infrastructure upgrades across the county.

This is a substantial, multi-year programme focused on strengthening and enabling the high-voltage power network. The scope of works is technically diverse and includes extensive earthworks, delivery of multiple small civil structures, and upgrades to key elements of the electricity transmission infrastructure.

The Role
As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will work closely with the Managing Quantity Surveyor, taking day-to-day commercial responsibility for defined work packages across the framework. This is a highly visible role within the commercial team, offering both autonomy and support in equal measure.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Commercial management of NEC contracts (primarily ECC) from early works through to final account
  • Cost control, forecasting, and reporting across complex civil and power-related works
  • Management and agreement of compensation events and variations
  • Subcontract procurement and commercial administration
  • Working collaboratively with site teams, planners, and the client to drive value and manage risk
  • Contributing to continuous improvement across the framework

About You
To be considered, candidates should demonstrate:

  • Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor (or a strong Quantity Surveyor ready to step up) within civil engineering or infrastructure
  • In-depth, working knowledge of the NEC suite of contracts
  • Strong commercial acumen and the confidence to manage client and internal stakeholder relationships
  • Experience across earthworks, structures, utilities, or power/infrastructure projects
  • A practical, delivery-focused mindset suited to live, operational sites
  • Residence within a reasonable commute of York or Leeds, given the site-based nature of the role

The Package
My client is offering a highly competitive package alongside excellent career progression, exposure to exciting projects and the support of a friendly and experienced team. The successful Senior Quantity Surveyor can expect a rewarding package that includes:

  • Salary circa 60,000 (flexible for the right individual)
  • 6,000-7,000 travel allowance
  • 27 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Pension contribution
  • Private healthcare
  • Annual bonus
  • Long-term workload on a nationally significant framework with clear progression opportunities

This is an excellent opportunity to secure a senior commercial role on a stable, high-value National Grid framework with a contractor known for investing in its people and promoting from within. The programme offers long-term security, challenging projects and genuine career development.
