Are you a compassionate, resilient, and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding role in a supportive and inclusive school environment? We are seeking a Specialist SEN Teaching Assistant to join a primary SEN school in York on a full-time, long-term supply basis for the rest of the academic year.

The Role

This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of pupils with a range of special educational needs, including autism, speech and language difficulties, social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, and complex learning difficulties.

You will be:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support across EYFS, KS1 and/or KS2 depending on need.

  • Assisting the class teacher in delivering tailored learning activities and managing behaviour positively.

  • Supporting pupils with personal care where necessary.

  • Creating a safe, nurturing environment that promotes pupil independence and confidence

Requirements 

  • Experience working with children with SEN, ideally in a specialist or primary setting.

  • A calm, empathetic and patient approach.

  • Ability to follow EHCP targets and individual learning plans.

  • Team player with strong communication skills.

  • A valid DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

Desirable:

  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, Team Teach, Autism Awareness, Moving and Handling).

  • Experience with Makaton, PECS, or other communication tools is a bonus.
