Interviews: what to say and what not to say!

Hey guys, Julie here 👋 When it comes to interviewing, there’s a certain etiquette you should follow. To put it bluntly, there are certain things you should ask, and certain things you should definitely not ask!

Let’s take a look…

❌Questions to avoid asking:

👉How long does it take to get promoted?

This can be off-putting for employers because it can indicate that you’re looking to run before you can walk. Employers want to see you master the basics before looking for a promotion.

👉What are the company benefits?

Any questions regarding salary or other perks should be avoided. Sometimes asking this question can give employers the impression that you’re too preoccupied with the benefits rather than the content of the role.

👉What are the break times?

This is a small detail and shouldn’t impact your interest in the position. Employers want to see you focus your questions more on the role, responsibilities and company culture.

✅Questions to ask:

👉What does the training entail?

Employers like to know that you’re keen to develop your skills and integrate into the company’s way of doing things. This question shows you’re on the right track!

👉How would you like to see me progress over the next 30 / 60 / 90 days?

By asking this, you’re getting to understand the employer’s expectations of you and developing a deeper understanding of the position.

👉What do you enjoy most about working here?

This is a personable question and really shows that you’re keen to understand, from an employee’s perspective, why it’s good to work there instead of just reading the job advert.

Take care for now!
