The Head Counselor will oversee, develop, and mentor the Cabin Counseling Team  at Woodward PA. Supervise all aspects of counseling, including daily routine, cabin cleanliness, behavioral management and cabin cohesiveness all while developing a fun, interactive environment for campers.  

   

The Head Counselor will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day cabin experience. This includes routine check-ins with Cabin Counselors and Campers. The Head Counselor will aid with parent-camper communications as needed. The Head Counselor is responsible for daily cabin safety along with nightly cabin checks as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Support Cabin Counselors in all aspects related to cabin life 

  • Supervise 7-25 Cabin Counselors and 1-2 Camper Support Counselors. Assist in scheduling, directing, and reviewing performance with Program Managers  

  • Reports disciplinary challenges to Program Leadership as needed   

  • Support in leadership roles including cabin checks, orientation, registration and meetings   

  • Assist in execution of daily cabin life, including daily routine, rec activities and socials 

  • Diversify the camper experience by implementing new ideas, activities and practices 

  • Provide unique perspectives and feedback that aid in the development of the cabin experience 

  • Routine safety inspections, reporting, and cleaning as assigned   

  • Work closely with Camper Housing Coordinator to manage camper placement and overall cabin cleanliness 

  • Assist in Supervising select Parent Program staff  

  • Provide feedback to elevate and evolve the cabin facilities 

  • Support in content capture for key programming events; weekly camp awards, recreation and social activities 

  • Provide unique perspectives and feedback that aid in the development of the cabin experience  

  • Carry out the Woodward Guest Services standards – Be Safe, Be Friendly, Be Helpful, Be Proud.  

  • Support operational departments in carrying out the Woodward mission in creating a safe and fun environment for all campers 

  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS 

Required Qualifications 

  • Secondary Education in Child Behavior and Development  

  • 5+ years of experience working with kids and/or teens 

  • 3+ years of cabin counseling experience  

  • Secondary Education in Child Behavior and Development  

  • Demonstrated broad technical knowledge of management techniques  

  • Understanding of appropriate behavior management techniques 

  • Proven ability to collaborate well across functions and departments, to work as part of a team.   

  • Provide work related references upon request.  

  • Employment in this position is contingent upon successful completion of all pre-hire background checks, including criminal history clearance through the Pennsylvania State Police (PATCH), child abuse clearance through the Department of Public Welfare, Motor Vehicle Record if required by position and federal background screening via FBI fingerprinting 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Preferred experience in leadership 

  • Experience in action sports preferred 

 

PRE-REQUISITES 

Must have or be able to obtain the following prior to starting work: 

Woodward will supply information to assist you in obtaining these if needed.  

  • Mandated Reporter Training Certificate 

  • Safesport Training Certificate 

 

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Physical Capabilities: bend, twist, push, pull, stand, lift 50 lbs.   

  • Must be comfortable working in an outdoor and indoor all-season environment.   

  • Adhere to all workplace safety practices, expectations, and guidelines.   

  • Primary on-site work location: Woodward, PA
