About the Position
Dexis is seeking an Editorial Technician I to support a large-scale Army test and evaluation program. The project provides data collection, technical writing, computer operations, range scheduling, and administrative support services necessary to execute the government’s test mission. Support encompasses testing of a wide variety of automotive, combat, electronic, general equipment, and ordnance materiel, with services including data collection and coordination, data compilation and processing, development and management of data collection forms, test monitoring, technical writing and editorial review, reporting, data and software administration, range scheduling, and related operational support.Â
The Editorial Technician edits and proofreads technical documents for grammar, punctuation, spelling, clarity, format, and consistency. The role verifies basic factual information, checks the consistency of text with illustrations and other graphics, supports document layout and multimedia content, and ensures final copy reflects required editorial changes.Â
Work will be performed primarily onsite in Aberdeen, Maryland, with travel to other locations within the Continental United States (CONUS) and Outside the Continental United States (OCONUS) as required by mission needs. This position is contingent upon contract award.
ResponsibilitiesÂ
- Edit documents for grammar, punctuation, syllabification, spelling, capitalization, proper English usage, grammatical construction, and format requirements.Â
- Revise sentences, paragraphs, paragraph order, and order of presentation to improve clarity while maintaining the intended meaning.Â
- Determine publication format by marking copy, planning layout, or preparing specifications for textual or tabular documents.Â
- Observe and identify internal factual inconsistencies in documents.Â
- Verify the accuracy of statements, figures, illustrations, and subject-matter terms using standard reference works or other published material.Â
- Compare illustrations, photographs, tables, and charts with text to ensure they are pertinent and consistent.Â
- Develop familiarity with technical terminology, jargon, and multimedia formats.Â
- Insert web links, photographs, graphics, and video files into documents as required.Â
- Proofread final copy to ensure editorial changes and markings have been incorporated.Â
- Safeguard passwords and access to office computer files and programs.Â
QualificationsÂ
- Four (4) years of experience as an Editorial Technician, Technical Writer, or Word Processor III where editing was a major duty; OR an Associate’s degree in English, Journalism, Technical Writing, Communications, or Science and two (2) years of experience in technical writing or editing; OR a Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Technical Writing, Communications, or Science.Â
- Must be proficient in the advanced functionality and tools of Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat.Â
- Must possess a high school diploma.Â
- Must be proficient in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English.Â
- Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.Â
- Must be proficient in the use of computers and Microsoft Office software.Â
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.Â
- Must be able to meet the physical requirements necessary to perform assigned functions, which may include working in extreme heat or cold, high humidity, blowing sand and dust, confined spaces, at heights, and walking distances over unimproved terrain while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).Â
- Must be available to support work outside normal duty hours when required by mission needs.Â
- Must be willing and able to travel within CONUS and OCONUS as required.Â
