Position Title: Technical Writer / Training Product Support Specialist

Location: Hybrid to Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD

We are seeking a Senior Technical Writer to lead the creation, maintenance, and delivery of high-quality technical documentation and training content in support of a U.S. Army Program of Record. This role serves as the critical bridge between software engineering teams and end users, ensuring that evolving system capabilities are translated into clear, accessible, and actionable materials. You will ensure documentation is consistently accurate, up-to-date, and aligned with software release cycles, while enabling end users to confidently understand and apply system functionality. Partnering closely with engineering teams, you will distill complex technical changes into concise outputs and establish standardized, scalable, and audit-ready documentation processes. Your work will directly support high-quality training and technical materials that successfully pass Validation & Verification (V&V) with minimal rework.

This role requires an Active DoD Secret Clearance. \n


WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Own End-to-End Technical Documentation

  • Develop, update, and maintain Technical Manuals (TMs), user guides, and system documentation

  • Ensure all documentation reflects current system functionality and operational workflows

  • Establish documentation standards, templates, and style consistency across deliverables

Translate Complex Software into Clear Content

  • Work closely with Agile software teams to understand system architecture, features, and updates

  • Convert technical requirements and code changes into clear, concise, user-focused documentation

  • Produce content for both technical and non-technical audiences

Manage Documentation Lifecycle & Release Alignment

  • Align documentation updates with software release cycles (quarterly and bi-annual releases)

  • Implement version control and configuration management best practices

  • Maintain traceability between system requirements, features, and documentation

Support Training Content Development

  • Develop and update Training Support Packages (TSPs) and Computer-Based Training (CBT) materials

  • Ensure documentation supports institutional, operational, and field training needs

  • Structure content using ADDIE or Systems Approach to Training (SAT) principles

Lead Validation & Quality Assurance

  • Conduct reviews, edits, and quality checks for accuracy, usability, and compliance

  • Support Validation & Verification (V&V) activities for documentation and training materials

  • Incorporate stakeholder feedback from engineering teams, program offices, and end users

Collaborate Across Stakeholders

  • Partner with engineers, product owners, and military stakeholders to gather and validate information

  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (PI planning, sprint reviews, demos) as the documentation lead


WHAT YOU HAVE DONE

Technical Writing Expertise

  • 8–10+ years of experience in technical writing, documentation, or training content development within DoD or similar environments

  • Proven ability to create clear, structured documentation for complex software systems

DoD & Program Experience

  • Experience supporting a Program of Record (POR) within the DoD acquisition lifecycle

  • Familiarity with military training documentation, Technical Manuals (TMs), and TSPs

Software & Agile Integration

  • Experience working directly with software development teams in Agile environments

  • Ability to interpret technical designs, system behavior, and requirements

Instructional & Documentation Methodologies

  • Experience applyingADDIE or Systems Approach to Training (SAT)

  • Understanding of documentation lifecycle management, versioning, and configuration control

Professional Skills

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines independently

Requirements

  • Active DoD Secret Clearance

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Willingness to travel for integration, testing, and fielding events


EVEN BETTER
  • Direct experience developing and maintaining Technical Manuals (TM) and Training Support Packages (TSP) for Army systems

  • Familiarity with CECOM and TRADOC documentation and approval processes

  • Experience documenting systems such as Electronic Warfare Planning and Management Tool (EWPMT)

  • Knowledge of Army training doctrine and policies

  • Experience with TADSS and integration into training documentation

  • Proficiency with documentation tools (e.g., MadCap Flare, Confluence, SharePoint, version control systems)
