About the Position
Dexis is seeking a Technical Writer III (Leader) to support a large-scale Army test and evaluation program. The project provides data collection, technical writing, computer operations, range scheduling, and administrative support services necessary to execute the government client's test mission. Support encompasses testing of a wide variety of automotive, combat, electronic, general equipment, and ordnance materiel, with services including data collection and coordination, data compilation and processing, development and management of data collection forms, test monitoring, technical writing and editorial review, reporting, data and software administration, range scheduling, and related operational support.
The Technical Writer III (Leader) will serve as the working leader for technical writers supporting Department of Defense research, development, test and evaluation activities. The role will lead and review technical writing efforts and develop, edit, and produce technical and administrative publications in accordance with government standards and requirements.
Work will be performed primarily onsite in Aberdeen, Maryland, with travel to other locations within the Continental United States (CONUS) and Outside the Continental United States (OCONUS) as required by mission needs. This position is contingent upon contract award.
Responsibilities
- Serve as working leader to technical writers and review completed work products.
- Develop, write, and edit reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications.
- Apply regulations and policies affecting government publications, publishing concepts, practices, standards, and current publishing technology.
- Work with technical terminology, specialized jargon, document formats, and multimedia formats.
- Organize technical material and complete writing assignments according to established standards for order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
- Review published materials and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, content, reproduction, and binding methods.
- Maintain records and files of technical writing products and revisions.
- Incorporate photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, charts, web links, graphics, and video into publications.
- Coordinate typing, duplication, and distribution of materials.
- Assist in the development of speeches, articles, and public or employee relations releases.
- Edit, standardize, and revise materials prepared by other writers or technical personnel.
- Develop technical materials concerning work methods and procedures, including the installation, operation, and maintenance of machinery and other equipment.
QualificationsÂ
- Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or another scientific discipline.
- Minimum of six (6) years of technical writing experience supporting Department of Defense research, development, test and evaluation (RDT&E) programs.
- Minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience.
- Must possess an active Secret security clearance.
- Must possess a high school diploma.
- Must be proficient in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Must be proficient in the use of computers and Microsoft Office software.
- Must be able to meet the physical requirements necessary to perform assigned functions, which may include working in extreme heat or cold, high humidity, blowing sand and dust, confined spaces, at heights, and walking distances over unimproved terrain while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Must be available to support work outside normal duty hours when required by mission needs.
- Must be willing and able to travel within CONUS and OCONUS as required.
