Position Overview

The Driver Class A is responsible for transporting, unloading, and delivering products and materials to customers within the assigned delivery area. This role ensures timely, safe, and accurate deliveries while maintaining compliance with DOT regulations and providing excellent customer service. This position requires touch freight deliveries, including manual unloading and product placement at customer locations.


Essential Responsibilities

  • Operate company CDL A vehicles, including tractor-trailers, to deliver products to multiple customer locations in a safe and timely manner
  • Load and unload products as part of a touch freight delivery model, handling weights up to 80 pounds and using equipment such as pallet jacks and liftgates
  • Perform deliveries in refrigerated environments while maintaining product integrity and temperature control
  • Provide white glove delivery service, including product placement and staging based on customer needs, including delivery into tight spaces such as basements or storage areas when required
  • Maintain professional and courteous customer interactions during all deliveries
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report any defects or equipment issues
  • Maintain accurate DOT logs and records in compliance with hours of service regulations
  • Complete all required delivery documentation, including bills of lading, delivery confirmations, and inspection reports
  • Comply with all DOT regulations, including hours of service, vehicle weight limits, and safety protocols
  • Ensure all required documentation is available and submitted for inspections and compliance purposes
  • Follow all company safety procedures, including proper use of equipment and protective gear
  • Participate in required safety training and certification programs
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies, including accidents, breakdowns, or hazardous situations
  • Communicate delivery issues, delays, or safety concerns to management in a timely manner
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, including special deliveries or support tasks


Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age in accordance with DOT regulations for operating a commercial motor vehicle in interstate commerce
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required
  • Valid DOT Medical Card required
  • Minimum of 2 years of verifiable commercial driving experience preferred
  • CDL must be in good standing with no current suspension or revocation
  • Clean driving record with the ability to maintain compliance with company standards
  • Ability to lift up to 80 pounds repeatedly and handle physically demanding tasks
  • Ability to push and pull handcarts weighing up to 200 pounds
  • Ability to drive for extended periods of time
  • Ability to stand, bend, and move heavy materials throughout the workday
  • Ability to work overnight or early morning shifts as required
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures and seasonal weather conditions
  • Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent


Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience in food distribution or delivery preferred
  • Experience operating tractor-trailers in local delivery environments preferred
  • Experience with handheld scanners or delivery tracking systems preferred
  • Strong customer service experience
