Faculty Position Information

Abilene Christian University invites applications for up to two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in Nuclear Science and Engineering, with consideration given to candidates possessing qualifications and experience suitable for the Associate Professor level. These are nine-month full-time appointments. The successful candidates will be integral to developing and expanding the university’s new graduate program in nuclear science and engineering, teaching advanced coursework, advising graduate students, and engaging in innovative research aligned with the university’s strategic vision.
These faculty members will be responsible for teaching coursework across several areas, including nuclear engineering, reactor theory, instrumentation, and advanced topics such as machine learning and system control. They will serve as research advisors for Master’s and PhD students.  They are also expected to work to obtain external grants, support curriculum development, and collaborate with the university’s NEXT Lab and its planned molten salt research reactor project, which will serve as a hub for cutting-edge research and educational opportunities.

Qualifications

Candidates for these positions should hold a Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong potential for excellence in graduate teaching, possess research interests aligned with nuclear reactor systems, nuclear physics, and related disciplines, and demonstrate the ability to secure external research funding. Effectiveness in communication, mentorship, and collaboration are essential qualities.
