General Practice | Emergency | Surgery

Absecon Veterinary Hospital is seeking Veterinary Technicians to join our growing team. We are currently hiring full-time, part-time, and relief technicians to support our General Practice, Emergency, and Surgery departments.

Our technicians play a vital role in delivering high-quality medical care, supporting our veterinarians, advocating for patients, and providing exceptional service to our clients. What You'll Do

Patient Care & Nursing

  • Assist veterinarians with patient examinations, diagnostics, and treatments
  • Obtain and record patient histories, vital signs, and medical observations
  • Safely restrain animals for examinations and procedures
  • Monitor hospitalized patients and report changes in condition
  • Provide nursing care to hospitalized and recovering patients

Diagnostic & Laboratory Procedures

  • Collect blood, urine, fecal, and other diagnostic samples
  • Perform in-house laboratory testing including bloodwork, urinalysis, cytology preparation, and fecal analysis
  • Take diagnostic radiographs using proper positioning and radiation safety protocols
  • Prepare and submit samples to outside laboratories

Surgery & Anesthesia

  • Prepare patients and surgical suites for procedures
  • Induce, monitor, and recover patients under anesthesia under veterinarian supervision
  • Monitor anesthetic depth, vital signs, and patient safety during procedures
  • Maintain surgical instruments and sterile equipment
  • Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures

Pharmacy & Treatments

  • Prepare and administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed
  • Fill prescriptions accurately and label medications according to hospital protocols
  • Maintain controlled drug inventory and required regulatory logbooks

Emergency & Critical Care

  • Assist with emergency procedures including CPR and life-saving interventions
  • Provide monitoring and supportive care for ICU and critical patients

Client Communication

  • Educate clients on medications, treatment plans, preventative care, and post-operative instructions
  • Support veterinarians in discussing diagnostics and treatment recommendations when appropriate

Hospital Operations

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of treatment areas, exam rooms, surgery suites, and equipment
  • Clean and sterilize medical instruments and maintain hospital equipment
  • Follow proper infection control and biosecurity procedures

Team Support

  • Support and mentor veterinary assistants, students, and new team members
  • Collaborate with veterinarians and hospital staff to ensure efficient workflow and patient care


Requirements:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in veterinary emergency, urgent care, or general practice
  • Graduate of an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program preferred
  • Certified or licensed veterinary technician (CVT, LVT, or RVT) preferred
  • Proficient in restraint, IV catheter placement, blood draws, anesthesia monitoring, and medication administration
  • Familiarity with EzyVet or similar veterinary software a plus
  • Strong multitasking skills and ability to remain calm in high-stress situations
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs, stand/walk for long periods, and restrain animals safely using Fear-Free techniques
  • Willingness to work in an environment with noise, potential allergens, zoonotic risks, and medical equipment


Schedule:

  • Hospital hours: 8:00 AM – 11:00 PM
  • Shifts vary between 8, 10, or 12 hours, based on hospital needs
  • Weekend, evening, and holiday availability may be required
