Equipment Engineering / Controls / Maintenance Technician

Primary Responsibilities:

The technician will perform electrical and mechanical troubleshooting to determine problems in non-functioning electro-mechanical equipment used in the manufacturing process. This includes dismantling, adjusting, repairing, and assembling equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, operating or repair manuals, rough sketches, or drawings. Will use test and diagnostic equipment to perform checkouts. Will rebuild manufacturing equipment as required. May perform equipment modifications as directed by manufacturing engineers. Primary work is to diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, rebuild, maintain OEM & Customized heat-treating furnaces, kilns & ovens to support the manufacturing processes.

Work Schedule: 

First Shift Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm

Opportunity to move to off shift as suited

Job Requirements include:

  • Capable of working in ambient temperatures of 85-110 degrees F environment, changing motors, motor drives, heating elements, thermocouples, temperature controllers, etc.
  • Using ladders and steps and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Understanding of PLC’s integrated to HMI control of temperature & automation
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience using VOM to check voltage, amperage & resistance of AC/DC circuits. Diagnostic tools to troubleshoot and resolve interruptions of electro-mechanical primary & sub-systems on manufacturing equipment. Including pneumatic, hydraulic, process gases, mechanical and electronic motion components
  • Ability to comprehend electrical schematics and OEM manuals. Intuitive understanding of process sequences to isolate & repair problems in production machinery.
  • Ability to understand and troubleshoot silicon-controlled rectifiers, Watlow, Omega, Eurotherm for temperature controlling. Understanding & use of Thin Manager architecture for monitoring of furnace/kiln temperature control & motion automation.
  • Working with a group of technicians to assist & be assisted in resolving production equipment interruptions that occur on temperature-controlled equipment, i.e. kilns, furnaces, ovens. Capable of working with team & independently as time & urgency permits.
  • Adapting to control software changes, new technology, new software, and new procedures.
  • Performing rudimentary and complex preventive maintenance on scheduled cycles.
  • Record keeping, written & verbal communication skills
  • Weekly Rotating call-ins to respond to off-shift occurrences after hours and on weekends.

Preferred Skills:

  • Technical School Training, Military or Electrical Engineering Technology Training
  • AC & DC Electrical, Pneumatic & hydraulic troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience using PLC software, such as Allen Bradley 500 or 5000.
  • SCADA Thin Manager, Inductive Automation, Active Factory, Ignition, Customized, etc.
  • Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, Access
