Summary of Position |
The Senior Director of Nursing serves as the senior nursing leader for RCCHC and is responsible for the strategic direction, operational oversight, quality, compliance, and performance of all nursing services across the organization. As a member of the Executive Team, the Senior Director of Nursing partners with executive leadership to develop organizational strategy, improve clinical operations, ensure regulatory compliance, strengthen workforce development, and promote high-quality, patient-centered care. The SDON will model behaviors consistent with the published values and the Code of Conduct of RCCHC.

Roanoke Chowan Community Health Center will provide open access, community-oriented primary care of the highest quality to all residents within our service area and surrounding counties, regardless of their ability to pay.
Minimum Qualifications |

Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions in the English language. Communicate effectively. Interact respectfully and professionally with internal and external customers. Ability to gather and synthesize information. Must be void of any drug convictions or related charges. Able to travel to other RCCHC sites. Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse populations, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of the communities we serve.
Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred. In place of a bachelor's degree, candidates with a current unrestricted North Carolina RN license and a minimum of ten (10) years of progressive healthcare leadership experience in management or director-level roles may be considered.
Experience: Minimum five years of progressive healthcare leadership experience with multi-site clinical operations preferred. Strong knowledge of FQHC operations, regulatory compliance, quality improvement, budgeting, workforce planning, and nursing practice. Demonstrated leadership, communication, analytical, and management skills. Minimum of five years of extensive experience in healthcare management required. Spanish speaking preferred
Certification(s)/Licensure: Requires a current valid RN license in North Carolina.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge and thorough understanding of Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC’s) in regard to the Federal 330 Public Health Service Act
- Knowledge and thorough understanding of the 340B program
- Knowledge of computer systems and applications.

Essential Functions |
- Develops and implements the Clinical Nursing Division strategic plan in alignment with the organization's mission, vision, strategic priorities, and operational goals.
- Provides visionary leadership fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Participates as a member of the Executive Team in organizational planning, budgeting, policy development, and operational decision-making related to nursing and clinical services.
- Serves as liaison between the Clinical Nursing Division and executive leadership, communicating strategic initiatives, operational challenges, and organizational achievements.
- Directs the day-to-day operations of the Clinical Nursing Division, ensuring efficient workflows, effective resource utilization, regulatory compliance, and consistent delivery of high-quality patient care.
- Develops, implements, maintains, and communicates nursing policies, procedures, workflows, and evidence-based clinical practice standards.
- Assesses clinical and educational needs and oversees orientation, competency validation, continuing education, leadership development, and succession planning.
- Monitors departmental performance metrics including patient outcomes, nursing-sensitive indicators, patient experience, productivity, staffing, quality measures, and financial performance to drive improvement.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, payer, accreditation, FQHC, PCMH, and organizational requirements while promoting best practices in quality improvement, reimbursement, and risk management.
- Promotes high-quality, patient-centered care through performance expectations, competency oversight, patient safety initiatives, and quality assurance standards.
- Leads recruitment, onboarding, retention, coaching, mentoring, performance evaluations, corrective action, employee engagement, and recognition for nursing leaders and clinical support staff.
- Provides oversight of nurse managers and clinical support staffing to ensure appropriate staffing, productivity, and patient access across all clinical sites.
- Ensures compliance with workplace safety, infection prevention, emergency preparedness, Occupational Health, employee health, medical surveillance, and fitness-for-duty requirements.
- Identifies opportunities to improve clinical operations and partners with Quality leadership to implement and monitor quality improvement initiatives.
- Collaborates with providers, operational leaders, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care, improve outcomes, and promote team-based care.
- Represents the Clinical Nursing Division on Board committees as assigned, organizational committees, professional organizations, and community partnerships.
- Champions change management by leading organizational initiatives, implementing best practices, and driving innovation to improve clinical operations, patient outcomes, and workforce engagement.
- Performs regular site visits to all clinical locations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
