Description

Job Summary:

The Medication Technician is responsible for administering medications and assisting residents with their healthcare needs in a senior living community.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Administers prescribed medications to residents in accordance with physician instructions and facility protocols.
  •  Monitors residents for any adverse reactions or side effects from medications and reports findings to the nurse or supervisor.
  •  Assists residents with personal care tasks, including hygiene, grooming, and daily living activities, as needed.
  •  Maintains accurate and timely documentation of medication administration, observations, and resident care in compliance with regulatory standards.
  •  Prepares and organizes medication carts, ensuring proper storage and labeling of medications.
  •  Assists in taking and recording vital signs, such as blood pressure, temperature, and pulse, and reports any irregularities to the appropriate staff.
  •  Provides emotional support to residents and fosters a caring and positive environment.
  •  Communicates effectively with residents, families, and team members to address healthcare concerns and ensure quality care.
  •  Participates in training and orientation for new employees and contributes to maintaining a collaborative team atmosphere.



Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  •  Strong attention to detail and ability to follow medication administration protocols accurately.
  •  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  •  Dependable and punctual with a commitment to maintaining a safe and caring environment.
  •  Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.


Education and Experience:

  •  High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  •  Successful completion of a state-approved medication technician training program.
  •  Previous experience in a senior living or healthcare setting preferred.


Physical Requirements: 

  •  Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  •  Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  •  Ability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and physical stamina.
