Position Overview

Responsibilities: 

  • Participate in and continuously improve on Safety, Quality, Productivity, and Cost  

  • Monitor safety of all processes in the extrusion department 

  • Responsible for the reliability and operation of polyester drying equipment 

  • Responsible for troubleshooting of extrusion process and related equipment 

  • Serve as the extrusion process expert, with a consistent focus on improving productivity 

  • Provides coaching to mechanics, operators, and supervisors around safety, process, and productivity 

  • Drives root cause analysis and implementation of preventative measures for off quality fiber and customer complaints 

  • Participates in customer feedback calls and customer visits 

  • Monitors running conditions of extrusion as needed to ensure the production of a first quality product 

  • Monitors product changes and startups to guard against contamination and off quality 

  • Confers with lab on out if spec quality checks 

  • Assists in improving the operational knowledge and improving the procedures within extrusion and in increasing the areas overall response time to out of spec conditions. 

  • Performs required SPC activities as an administrator and user of Infinity QS software. 

  • Utilizes BB training and Minitab data analysis for improving the process and the performance of project specific teams. 

  • Write and edit departmental SOPs 

  • Assist within the extrusion department operations as needed 

  • Provide technical assistance to the departmental manager, team managers, associates and internal customers on a daily basis 

  • Managing capital projects, driving TPM initiatives and cost improvements 

  • Responsible for managing LOTO procedures for the department 

  • Assist in leading and managing Intern(s), OMT(s), and Process Technician(s) as needed. 

  • Facilitate employee engagement within the department through managing the “Bright Idea” System, and participating in Round Table Meetings, Quality Meetings, and Team Accountability Meetings.  

  • Understand and Support all SAFE, SMS, TPM, Lean Six Sigma & Environmental Efforts within the department.   

  • Assist in developing and implementing plans to improve these areas where performance is under goal.

Requirements: 

  • 4-year Engineering degree required; Chemical, Mechanical, or Materials Engineering degree preferred 

  • Strong communication skills (written and oral) 

  • Strong project management skills 

  • Six Sigma Black Belt trained or willingness to complete training

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office & Google Suite (preferred) 

  • Previous manufacturing experience (preferred) 

  • (Based upon experience level of candidate selected, position may be filled as a Process Engineer or Sr. Process Engineer)
