Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is seeking a Waste Certification Analyst. This position (formerly known as a Generator Certification Official (GCO)) supports the SRNL Waste Program by managing excess chemicals, waste residues, legacy materials and equipment disposition efforts including Low-level radioactive and Transuranic (TRU) wastes. Duties include providing the primary interface between SRNL and Solid Waste Management Facilities personnel for waste shipment planning and logistics; Preparing waste manifests and associated documentation; Directing waste packaging and transfer activities; Providing waste transfer / shipment information for facility schedules; Coordinating material transfer with Chemical Coordinators, Site Trucking and other resources (e.g., Rigging and Operations); Providing input to annual Waste Forecasts; and Performing monthly and weekly waste management storage area field inspections.

Responsibilities

The SRNL Waste Certification Analyst functions as the primary point of contact for established waste programs to ensure field compliance with federal and state regulations, orders, and laws. Other specific duties include but are not limited to: Evaluating potential impact of regulatory changes on SRNL Research and Development and Operations and provide recommendations to management; Assist in defining the requirements for radioactive waste management procedures, and training and qualification requirements; Assisting Operations and Facilities (O&F) personnel in radiological characterization of problematic waste and waste streams, including sampling and analysis plans, certification or characterization plans and scope of work packages for field activity. Providing expertise for the laboratory for disposal of all waste types (i.e., Low-level Waste, Transuranic Waste, PCB Waste, Mixed Waste and Mixed TRU waste); Analyzing construction and special project plans for the creation of new waste streams; Performing periodic waste stream validation support; Developing sampling plans for various routine and non-routine laboratory and facility waste streams, and assisting group personnel (e.g., Environmental Compliance Authorities) with waste determinations.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED with at least 3 years of practical experience as a Qualified GCO
  • AS degree in a closely related discipline with at least 2 years of experience as a Qualified GCO 
  • BS degree in closely related discipline and at least 1 years of practical experience as a Qualified GCO
  • For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active DOE Clearance
