ASL Interpreter

The ASL Interpreter provides in-person American SignLanguage interpreting to deaf and hard-of-hearing students in grades 3 through12, substituting for district staff interpreters on an as-needed basis. Theinterpreter facilitates full access to classroom instruction, schoolactivities, and communication between students, teachers, and staff.

•      Provideaccurate, real-time ASL interpretation during classroom instruction,assemblies, and other school activities as assigned

•      Acceptassignments only when scheduled through the authorized district process; do notself-schedule or accept assignments from unauthorized parties

•      Arrivepunctually and be prepared for each assignment, including familiarity withsubject matter and any student-specific communication needs where provided

•      Maintainprofessional, age-appropriate conduct and communication with students in grades3–12

•      Maintainconfidentiality of student information consistent with FERPA and school policy

•      Coordinatewith classroom teachers and school staff to support the student's access toinstruction

•      Documentservices provided (dates, times, locations, hours) to support vendor invoicing

•      Notifythe scheduling coordinator promptly of any inability to fulfill an assignedengagement

•      Acceptthat the district may request replacement of an interpreter for a givenassignment at its discretion

•      Demonstratedqualification as an ASL interpreter meeting applicable state requirements foreducational interpreting (e.g., state-recognized certification orquality-assurance screening, as required by the state Department of Education)

•      Priorexperience interpreting in a K-12 or educational setting strongly preferred;experience with the grades 3–12 age range a plus

•      Mustpass both an FBI fingerprint-based background check and a state-level criminalbackground check prior to placement; clearance valid two (2) years and subjectto renewal

•      Nofelony or other disqualifying-crime conviction or plea, per district policy

•      Reliabletransportation; ability to report to assigned school buildings within thedistrict

•      Stronginterpersonal and communication skills; comfortable working with school-agestudents and staff

•      Musthold and maintain any applicable state licenses/certifications; required toself-report any lapse, revocation, or suspension within one business day

This is a contract/substitute position with noguaranteed minimum hours — assignment volume varies by district need throughoutthe school year. The district's identity and specific building locations willbe shared with candidates upon engagement.
