The Estimator will learn Welty processes and tools and develop professional skills while assisting with the preparation of cost estimates for competitive bids and negotiated proposals. This position will experience many facets of the construction and estimating process in order to develop and understanding of the building process and how Welty executes projects. All activities will be performed in support of the strategy, vision and values of Welty.

  • Autonomy and Decision Making: Makes decisions on routine matters, provides recommendations to supervisor and refers all exceptions to supervisors.


KEY ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

ESTIMATING FAMILY – CORE

  • Performs quantity survey of materials shown on project plans.
  • Reads and outlines project specifications.
  • Maintains an audit trail of the quantity survey from estimate to estimate.
  • Supports vendor/subcontractor pricing/bid solicitation and coordination.
  • Supports the distribution of plans and specifications to vendors/subcontractors.
  • Works collaboratively and creates relationships with a variety of stakeholders, such as project team members, subcontractors, vendors and clients.
  • Gains self-perform estimating experience.
  • Gains field operational exposure through onsite project support, as opportunities exist.

 

OTHER ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Continuously develops proficiency and understanding in the role.
  • Maintains a professional appearance and workspace.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITY

  • Ability to perform work accurately and completely, and in a timely manner.
  • Communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Ability to read and understand drawings and specifications.
  • Proficiency in construction estimating software.
  • Proficiency in required construction technology.
  • Knowledge of the means and methods of construction management.
  • Ability to learn quantity surveys.
  • Knowledge of specific trades and scopes of work.
  • Knowledge of Lean process and philosophy.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally.

 

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering or related field (Preferred).
  • In lieu of the above requirements, equivalent relevant experience will be considered.

 

EXPERIENCE

  • 0-2 years of PE/construction experience (Preferred).

 

CERTIFICATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS

  • Successful completion of company training and role-specific professional development coursework, within required timeframe (Required).
  • Successful completion of OSHA 30 training, within required timeframe (Required).
  • Successful completion and maintenance of First Aid Certification, CPR (Required).

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds.
  • May require periods of overnight travel.
  • Must be willing to work non-traditional hours to meet project demands.
  • Normal office environment, but may also be exposed to extreme conditions (hot or cold).
  • Frequent activity: Sitting, Viewing Computer Screen.
  • Occasional activity: Standing, Walking, Bending, Reaching above Shoulder, Pushing, Pulling, Climbing.
