In the Med/Surg Float Pool, you will work with diverse populations of patients, who have a variety of medical issues or are preparing for/recovering from surgery, in numerous units, departments and/or locations. Med/surg caregivers care for a broad spectrum of patients, giving you a vast and broad clinical skillset and the opportunity to work with and learn from many of our best caregivers.  

A caregiver in this position works nights 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. including every other weekend and 3 holidays per year requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:   

  • Deliver cost effective, quality patient care utilizing case management principles, the nursing process, and knowledge from various health care disciplines.  
  • Provide nursing care to adult, geriatric and sometimes adolescent patients based on established standards of nursing care by managing assigned personnel and collaborating with members of other health care disciplines.  
  • Complete med-surg competency and primarily be assigned on those units.  
  • Cover non medical-surgical units as needed.  
  • Promote and demonstrate nursing caring standards and guest relations standards. 
  • Assessments: complete ongoing assessments, recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately.  
  • Planning: develop and update goals, involve patients and families in developing plans of care, coordinating the interdisciplinary plan of care and serve as a patient advocate.  
  • Implementation: provide nursing care, administer treatments and medication, and document.  
  • Evaluation: participate in ongoing interdisciplinary evaluation of patient/family outcomes, contribute to the improvement of care and participate in the quality improvement process. 
  • Leadership/professional development: delegate tasks/assignments, serve as a resource person/role model/mentor and pursue ongoing education and specialty certifications. 
  • Complete mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department-specific competencies, requirements, certifications and/or licensure.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing  
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Ohio  
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross must be presented upon hire or within first year of hire

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

  • Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN)  


Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
