About the Role

WES is seeking an experienced Biologist/Ecologist in our consulting side of the business to support the planning, permitting, implementation, and long-term management of wetland mitigation, stream restoration, and ecosystem restoration projects for our clients. This role combines field biology, regulatory permitting, project management, client engagement, and technical problem-solving.

The ideal candidate is passionate about ecology, thrives in both office and field environments, and has prior consulting experience collaborating with regulators, clients, and multidisciplinary project teams to bring restoration projects from concept to completion.

What You'll Do

In this role, you will:

  • Conduct wetland and waters delineations and environmental field assessments
  • Perform GIS mapping, database management, and spatial analysis
  • Support the development and management of wetland and stream mitigation banks
  • Conduct project feasibility assessments and environmental due diligence
  • Prepare regulatory documentation, permitting applications, and banking instruments
  • Coordinate with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies
  • Assist with the design, construction, and implementation of restoration projects
  • Conduct vegetation monitoring, biological surveys, and ecological data collection
  • Analyze field data and prepare technical reports and recommendations
  • Develop project proposals, budgets, and scopes of work
  • Monitor project performance, schedules, and budgets
  • Collaborate with finance teams on project invoicing and reporting
  • Provide technical expertise and exceptional client service
  • Participate in site visits and agency meetings related to project success and long-term management
  • Travel regularly to project sites throughout the region and work outdoors in a variety of weather and terrain conditions

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Ecology, Biology, Natural Resources, Wetland Science, Hydrology, Restoration Ecology, or a related field
  • 5 to 7 years of professional experience in environmental consulting or ecological restoration
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with Clean Water Act Section 404 permitting
  • Experience with wetland mitigation, stream mitigation, and/or ecosystem restoration projects
  • Knowledge of plant and wildlife identification
  • Strong technical writing and reporting skills
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and interpreting ecological data
  • Project management experience with multiple concurrent projects
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Proficiency with GIS applications and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly and work in remote field locations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with permitting, mitigation banking, or regulatory programs in the Southeast, including:
    • Georgia
    • Alabama
    • Florida
    • South Carolina
    • North Carolina
    • Tennessee
  • Experience overseeing aquatic resource restoration projects, including wetland and stream restoration
  • Understanding of the regulatory, ecological, and stakeholder dynamics necessary for successful project implementation
