Job Description Summary:

Responsible as a team leader for the oversight of day-to-day pharmacy operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant preparation, distribution, and management of medications. This role functions as a working pharmacist while serving as a resource and operational lead for pharmacy staff, overseeing workflow coordination, quality assurance, and adherence to regulatory and institutional standards. Also responsible for all aspects of pharmaceutical care to include safe and appropriate use, managing selected drug therapies, and the dispensing, compounding, labeling, and storage of pharmaceuticals. Participates in the education of patients, nurses, and physicians.

The Lead Pharmacist serves as a working pharmacist and operational team leader, ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant preparation, distribution, and management of medications. This role provides daily oversight of pharmacy workflow, supports staff, and ensures adherence to regulatory and institutional standards. The Lead Pharmacist also delivers comprehensive pharmaceutical care, including drug therapy management, compounding, dispensing, and participation in patient and clinician education.

As a Lead Pharmacist, You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Overseeing day‑to‑day pharmacy operations and workflow coordination.
  • Ensuring compliant, safe, and efficient preparation, distribution, and management of medications.
  • Functioning as a working pharmacist while serving as an operational resource for pharmacy staff.
  • Maintaining adherence to regulatory and institutional standards.
  • Managing selected drug therapies, ensuring safe and appropriate medication use.
  • Overseeing compounding, dispensing, labeling, and proper pharmaceutical storage.
  • Participating in education of patients, nurses, and physicians.
  • Supporting quality assurance and continuous improvement efforts.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Higher Degree in B.S. Pharmacy (5‑year degree) or Pharm.D. (6‑year degree) — Required
  • Master’s Degree in Business or Healthcare Related — Preferred
  • ASHP‑Accredited PGY1 or PGY2 Residency — Preferred

Work Experience:

  • 1 year Hospital Pharmacy — Preferred
  • 1 year ASHP‑Accredited Hospital Pharmacy Residency — Preferred

Licenses & Certifications:

  • RPH — Registered Pharmacist — Required

  • Participates in medication safety initiatives and continuous quality improvement (CQI) programs.
  • Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, and core values.
  • Maintains current knowledge through required education and ongoing training.
  • Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in‑services and competencies on time.
  • Demonstrates competency in providing care for various patient populations based on age, weight, and needs.
  • Uses age‑specific customer service skills when applicable.
  • Wears protective clothing and equipment as required.
