The Registered Nurse working in the Renal Dialysis Unit is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating patient care of patients of all ages pediatric to geriatric. The RN coordinates, delegates, and provides direct nursing care for patients by working cooperatively with patients, family members, and all patient care team members. The RN provides supervision for patient team members in accordance with their level of training and the patient’s acuity.Description:
GENERAL REQUIREMENTSÂ
Plans and provides care for the pediatric, adult, and geriatric patient in the hospital in accordance with physician orders and hospital policy and procedures Â
Provides quality direct patient care and renal replacement therapies independently, in a professional and respectful manner Â
Supervises and directs patient care of unlicensed staff members Â
Collaborates with other members of the interdisciplinary team Â
Documents patient’s physical assessment, vital signs, and all other observations in the electronic medical record, and brings attention to any issues that may arise to the physician and the patient’s primary nurse Â
Documents, evaluates, and implements dialysis orders Â
Analyzes patient assessments, orders, and lab results and discusses any discrepancies with the Nephrologist Â
Communicates emergencies and life-threatening complications and related incidents to charge nurse, manager, primary nurse, and the patients primary physician Â
Provides initiation and discontinuation of prescribed renal replacement therapy, including but not limited to formulating a plan per physician orders, verifying safety measures are in place and complied with, administering medications or other appropriate treatments, and documenting all activities in the electronic medical record Â
Demonstrates the ability to transfer skill set and work in other hospital settings when required Â
Attends hospital orientation and mandatory in-services as required Â
Verifies accurate documentation is submittedin a timely manner Â
Provide data and metrics to support continuous process improvements, increase communication and coordinationacross the hospital care team, and support survey readiness Â
Independently demonstrates the ability to perform and take call for all provided modalities provided if needed Â
Act as a resource or preceptor for new staff members and those with less experience Â

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTSÂ
2 year/Associate’s Degree in nursing from an accredited school (Required)Â
4 year/Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited school (Preferred)Â

2 years nursing experience in medical surgical, critical care or ER (Required)Â
Nursing experience in nephrology (Preferred)Â Â

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSURESÂ
Registered Nurse (RN) with current Georgia licenseÂ
ACLS certification; AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required)Â Â
Certification as a Certified Dialysis Nurse (CDN) or a Certified Nephrology Nurse (CNN) (Preferred not required)Â
