Job Summary

The System Director of Acute Care Pharmacy Services is responsible for the strategic, operational, and clinical leadership of inpatient pharmacy services across Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital (PPMH), Phoebe Worth Medical Center (PWMC), and Phoebe Sumter Medical Center (PSMC). This role ensures consistent, high-quality, safe, and cost-effective medication use processes across all acute care campuses. The director will advance patient-centered care, drive regulatory compliance, foster a culture of clinical excellence, and collaborate with system and hospital leadership to optimize acute care pharmacy performance.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic & Operational Leadership

  • Provide system-level leadership and oversight of acute care pharmacy operations, policies, and performance at PPMH, PWMC, and PSMC.

  • Develop and implement strategies that align with Phoebe’s mission, vision, and organizational goals.

  • Standardize processes, workflows, and best practices across campuses to ensure quality, safety, and efficiency.

  • Drive operational improvements, including automation, technology optimization, and 340B compliance strategies.

Clinical & Quality Excellence

  • Ensure delivery of evidence-based, patient-centered medication therapy management in all acute care settings.

  • Oversee clinical pharmacy programs, including antimicrobial stewardship, critical care, oncology, and other service-line partnerships.

  • Monitor and improve quality, safety, and patient outcomes related to medication use.

  • Support residency training programs and student rotations to strengthen workforce development.

Financial Management

  • Manage acute care pharmacy budgets and ensure financial performance aligns with system goals.

  • Utilize drug spend analytics and purchasing strategies to optimize formulary management, reduce cost, and maximize 340B benefits.

  • Partner with finance and supply chain to forecast, track, and reconcile acute care pharmacy metrics.

Regulatory & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to all state, federal, and accrediting body regulations (Georgia Board of Pharmacy, DEA, FDA, DNV, HRSA, etc.).

  • Lead continuous survey readiness efforts across all campuses.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for pharmacy compliance and risk mitigation.

People & Culture

  • Lead, mentor, and develop acute care pharmacy leaders, managers, and staff across multiple campuses.

  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and accountable work environment that prioritizes patient safety and team engagement.

  • Support succession planning, workforce development, and recruitment/retention strategies.

Qualifications

  • PharmD or Bachelor of Pharmacy required; Master’s in Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or Business preferred.

  • Current Georgia Pharmacist license (or eligibility).

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive pharmacy leadership experience, with at least 3 years in an acute care or system-level leadership role.

  • Demonstrated expertise in clinical pharmacy practice, regulatory compliance, and operational management.

  • Proven ability to lead across multiple sites and balance strategic and operational priorities.

  • Strong financial acumen, analytical skills, and knowledge of 340B program management.
