Head of Maintenance

Position Summary

The Head of Maintenance is responsible for overseeing and performing all maintenance, repair, and preventative maintenance activities for the travel center. This hands-on leadership role ensures the facility, equipment, fuel systems, and mechanical infrastructure are operating safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate is experienced in multiple trades and can troubleshoot and repair a wide range of building systems with minimal supervision.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Oversee all maintenance operations for the travel center.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and emergency repairs on facility equipment and building systems.
  • Diagnose and repair HVAC systems, walk-in coolers, refrigeration equipment, boilers, plumbing, electrical, and general mechanical systems.
  • Maintain and repair fuel dispensing equipment and ensure compliance with underground storage tank (UST) regulations.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair snow removal equipment, including plow trucks.
  • Perform general facility repairs including doors, lighting, flooring, fixtures, painting, and exterior maintenance.
  • Coordinate with outside vendors and contractors for specialized repairs when necessary.
  • Maintain maintenance records, inspections, and regulatory documentation.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with OSHA, EPA, and company standards.
  • Respond to after-hours maintenance emergencies as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of commercial or industrial maintenance experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, boilers, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Experience maintaining fuel systems and convenience store/travel center equipment preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair a wide variety of equipment with minimal supervision.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Required Certifications

  • Current Underground Storage Tank (UST) Certification (required).
  • Boiler Class C License required or the ability to obtain within a designated timeframe after hire.
  • EPA Section 608 Refrigeration Certification preferred.
  • Additional HVAC, electrical, or mechanical certifications are a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift, push, pull, and carry up to 75 pounds.
  • Climb ladders, work on rooftops, crawl in confined spaces, and stand for extended periods.
  • Work safely around electrical, mechanical, and fuel systems.
  • Available for on-call emergencies, weekends, holidays, and after-hours maintenance when required.
