Handyman

GEM Plumbing is seeking a skilled and reliable Handyman to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience with drywall installation, repair, and finishing, as well as general handyman skills to assist with various construction and renovation projects.

This is a great opportunity for someone with a diverse skill set who is looking for a dynamic work environment. This position is full time, and will report to our Lincoln, RI location. Over time hours may be required.

Essential Job Functions

• Drywall Installation: Measure, cut, and install drywall sheets to walls, ceilings, and other structures.
• Repairs & Patching: Fix cracks, holes, and damaged drywall surfaces, ensuring a smooth and seamless finish.
• Taping & Mudding: Apply joint compound, tape seams, and smooth out surfaces for a clean finish.
• Sanding & Finishing: Sand down dried mud and compound to achieve a flawless surface ready for painting or finishing.
• General Handyman Duties: Assist with other tasks as needed, including painting, light carpentry, basic electrical or plumbing work, and general home repairs.
• Quality Control: Ensure all work meets company and safety standards, with attention to detail and high-quality craftsmanship.

• Clean-Up: Maintain a clean and organized work environment, removing debris and tools from job sites.
• General warehouse cleaning/maintenance
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a drywall installer or construction handyman.
• Proficient in drywall installation, repair, finishing, and patching techniques.
• Knowledge of basic construction tools and equipment (e.g., power tools, hand tools, scaffolding, ladders).
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction plans.
• Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to lift heavy materials and work in physically demanding conditions.
• Reliable transportation and valid driver's license.
• Must be able to pass background checks and comply with safety regulations.

Required Skills and Experience

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 1 -2 years of experience with drywall and construction

• Experience in other trades such as carpentry, electrical, or plumbing.
• Previous work in residential, commercial, or renovation projects.

• OSHA Certificate preferred, but not required.
• Current forklift license preferred, but not required.

Working Conditions

Environment

• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud
• Will work both indoors and outdoors in various climate conditions ranging from very cold to very hot and humid.
• Evening and/or early morning, and/or weekend hours periodically
