About the Role:

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the design, development, integration, testing, and production of aerospace and space electronics and systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for mechanical design of flight and ground-support hardware, including electronic enclosures, chassis, structural components, thermal-management solutions, mounting systems, and mechanical interfaces. This position works closely with electrical, embedded systems, FPGA, systems engineering, manufacturing, and production teams to develop reliable, manufacturable, and flight-ready products.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working across the full product lifecycle—from concept and analysis through prototype, qualification, production, and deployment.

Mechanical Design & Development

  • Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, enclosures, chassis, brackets, structural
  • elements, and mounting systems for aerospace and space applications.
  • Develop detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, drawings, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Define mechanical interfaces between electronic, electrical, thermal, structural, and system components.
  • Perform tolerance analysis, stack-up analysis, and design-for-manufacturability assessments.
  • Select appropriate materials, finishes, fasteners, seals, and mechanical components based on performance, environmental, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Design hardware for demanding aerospace environments, including vibration, shock, thermal cycling, vacuum, and radiation-related constraints where applicable.
  • Support thermal-management solutions, including conduction paths, heat sinks, thermal interfaces, and mechanical provisions for thermal control.

Aerospace & Space Systems

  • Apply aerospace engineering principles to the development of flight-qualified hardware.
  • Support mechanical design for spacecraft avionics, electronic modules, VPX/VNX-based systems, payload electronics, and other embedded computing platforms.
  • Design for launch environments, including structural loads, vibration, shock, and mechanical resonance.
  • Consider thermal expansion, material compatibility, outgassing, contamination, and other space- environment requirements.
  • Support mechanical qualification and environmental testing of flight hardware.
  • Participate in design reviews, including preliminary and critical design reviews.

Integration & Cross-Functional Engineering
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers to package PCBs, connectors, cabling, power electronics, and other electronic components within mechanical assemblies.
  • Work with systems engineers to translate system-level requirements into mechanical requirements and interfaces.
  • Collaborate with embedded/software and FPGA teams to understand computing, networking, and electronics requirements that affect mechanical architecture.
  • Work closely with manufacturing and production personnel to ensure designs are practical, repeatable, and cost-effective to manufacture.
  • Support procurement and suppliers in the fabrication of mechanical components and assemblies.
  • Participate in failure investigations and root-cause analysis of mechanical and system-level issues.

Analysis, Testing & Qualification
  • Perform or support structural, thermal, modal, and mechanical analyses as appropriate.
  • Develop and document mechanical verification and validation plans.
  • Support environmental qualification testing, including vibration, shock, thermal cycling, thermal vacuum, and other applicable testing.ï‚· Analyze test results and implement corrective design improvements.
  • Support development of prototypes and engineering models and transition designs into production.
Manufacturing & Production Support
  • Develop drawings and documentation suitable for precision manufacturing and assembly.
  • Establish appropriate tolerances, GD&T, surface finishes, and inspection requirements.
  • Support manufacturing with troubleshooting, assembly procedures, tooling, fixtures, and work instructions.
  • Interface with external machine shops, fabricators, and other suppliers.
  • Participate in production readiness and continuous-improvement activities.
Documentation & Engineering Processes
  • Maintain mechanical design documentation, bills of materials, drawings, specifications, and configuration-controlled models.
  • Document engineering analyses, test results, design decisions, and deviations.
  • Participate in configuration management, change control, and engineering review processes.
  • Support compliance with applicable aerospace, military, customer, and company standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 3 to 8+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience; experience with aerospace, defense, electronics, or space systems is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD and mechanical design tools.
  • Experience creating engineering drawings with GD&T.
  • Understanding of mechanical design, materials, manufacturing processes, and structural mechanics.
  • Experience designing mechanical assemblies and working with machined, sheet-metal, and/or additive- manufactured components.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
