E05Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Safety and Environmental Health, the Safety Technician performs tasks to support compliance with safety, fire prevention, and environmental health programs. This position performs entry-level safety checks on equipment, assists with maintaining safety supplies, provides vendor escorts, collects and analyzes information, and helps support good housekeeping and a safe environment.Duties & Responsibilities
- This role requires frequent walking and movement through various campus environments, including movement between campuses and outdoor spaces.
- On a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, assists with campus-wide safety checks on equipment.
- Escorts third parties (vendors) contracted to perform assessments, testing, and evaluations, to ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards and regulations.
- Assists the Safety, Fire Prevention, and Environmental Health Analyst to support campus safety and environmental health programs.
- Provides support with the development of training and safety programs that impact the safety and well-being of CNM employees and our campus community.
- Assist with record keeping of third-party inspections, safety inspections, training sessions, and incident reports to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and CNM policy requirements.
- Assists with the inputting and updating of information into various departmental databases and other sources, such as paper documents or electronic files.
- Assists with the effort to validate that all safety equipment is properly maintained, inspected, calibrated, and repaired or put out-of-service as necessary. Supports inventory and asset management.
- Provides administrative support to the safety and risk management functions; provides first point of contact assistance and technical assistance to college personnel relating to safety equipment. Assists with the dissemination of information on safety policies and procedures, maintains files and electronic records and databases.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
AND
- Must be able to obtain and maintain approval to operate CNM-owned vehicles in accordance with college policy
Preferences:
- Familiarity with safety regulations and standards, including OSHA guidelines, and general workplace safety practices. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Experience working in a higher education environment.
- Experience conducting safety inspections, equipment checks, or compliance-related activities.
