JOB SUMMARY
To act as patient advocate, providing continuity of care designed to meet individual patient needs through collaboration with other members of the health care team and supporting the philosophy, objectives and goals of  the facility.  The Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing the needs of the individual patients including but not limited to adult, pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients.

Reports To:     Unit Manager
Classification:  Non-Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS
Licensure as Registered Nurse.  Minimum one year experience as a staff nurse preferred.
Current PALS and ACLS certification.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE                      
 Category I exposure to bloodborne pathogens, frequent exposure to chemical hazards and may encounter radiation hazards.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Performs assessment/data collection in an ongoing and systematic manner, focusing on physiologic, psychological and cognitive status.
  2. Formulates a goal directed plan of care, which is prioritized and based on determined nursing diagnosis and patient outcomes. 
  3. Implements care in a knowledgeable, skilled consistent manner in reaching the desired patient outcomes through nursing processes.
  4. Establish priorities of patient care based on essential patient needs and available center resources of time, personnel, equipment and supplies.
  5. Performs efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons and documenting events. 
  6. Demonstrates applied knowledge base in areas of medical/surgical patient care, pain assessment and actions of pharmaceuticals and anesthetic agents, laboratory values, safety and legal issues and all emergency equipment. 
  7. Practices effective problem identification and resolution skills as a method of sound decision making. 
  8. Performs documentation duties on the floor and in the patient record, which is timely, accurate and concise. 
  9. Works as part of a team in delivering patient care.
  10. Attends all mandatory in-services and participates in staff meetings.
  11. Remains flexible, adaptive and able to accept and implement new ideas and approaches. 
  12. Performs duties of waived and specific non-waived laboratory testing to include pre-analytic, analytic and post-analytic phases of testing.  This includes specimen collection and processing, instrument operating and quality controls, evaluation and documentation of test results and notification of physician of any critical results.
  13. Treats all patients equally adopting the centers Patient Rights policy.
  14. Reviews and carries out physician orders in an appropriate professional manner. 
  15. Willingness to assist with other duties when asked. 
  16. Comply with facility Standards of Behavior and complete all required education   assignments within the designated timeline.
