Description

  

Location: Alexandria, MN (preferred) — consideration may be given to other office locations. Candidates should be willing to work on-site to support collaboration, teamwork, and knowledge sharing.


Widseth is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Staff Archaeologist to support both office-based and field projects. This role requires strong technical expertise, creativity, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders. Key Responsibilities

· Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and right-of-way specialists to address environmental and cultural resource considerations.

· Coordinate with federal and state agencies to ensure compliance with permitting requirements.

· Conduct a range of field activities, including: 

  • Archaeological surveys
  • Testing and excavation
  • Surface collection
  • Monitoring

· Prepare archaeological proposals and technical reports, including Phase I/Class I documentation.

· Provide professional cultural resource recommendations to support project planning.

· Plan, organize, and lead Phase III/Class III field projects of varying sizes across multiple states.


Qualifications

· Master’s degree in Archaeology or a related field.

· Archaeological field experience preferred.

· Proficiency in ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Online for fieldwork and data management.

· Experience with federal and state cultural resource permitting.

· Familiarity with GPS equipment.

· Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

· Excellent organizational and time management abilities.

· Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.


Work Environment

This position requires:

· Working outdoors in remote locations for extended periods.

· Navigating rugged terrain in varying weather conditions.

· Maintaining strong awareness of workplace safety.

· Working independently or with minimal supervision when appropriate.
