Assistant Professor of Piano Studies

The Department of Music in the School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Richmond welcomes applications for a full-time tenure-track Coordinator of Piano Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in the 2027-2028 academic year.

We seek an active performer with a strong background in Western classical repertoire and piano pedagogy who can successfully balance teaching responsibilities with ongoing professional activity. The successful candidate will be committed to helping students develop a strong foundation in classical piano technique, teaching a studio of approximately ten undergraduate piano students in private lessons each semester, and offering one additional course each academic year related to their area of expertise. As Coordinator of Piano Studies, the successful candidate will work collaboratively with the department chair to oversee a team of 2-3 adjunct piano instructors representing a range of styles and pedagogical approaches.

A Doctorate (DMA) in Piano Performance and/or Piano Performance and Pedagogy is required by the time of appointment.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to teach and mentor students with a wide range of backgrounds, abilities, and musical interests.
