Position: Civil/Structural Engineering Department Manager
Location: Akron, Ohio (Hybrid – minimum 3 days/week on-site)

Position Overview

Seeking an experienced Civil/Structural Engineering Department Manager to lead both technical project execution and departmental operations. This senior leadership role combines hands-on engineering responsibilities with team management, ensuring high-quality project delivery within industrial environments such as chemical, petrochemical, and manufacturing facilities.

Core Responsibilities

  •  Lead and manage the civil/structural engineering department, including staffing, scheduling, and performance management 
  •  Serve as Lead Engineer on single and multi-discipline industrial projects 
  •  Oversee design and analysis of steel structures, foundations, concrete, masonry, and complex load-bearing systems 
  •  Review engineering drawings, calculations, and contractor submissions for compliance with codes and standards 
  •  Drive continuous improvement in department procedures, tools, and design practices 
  •  Coordinate with internal teams, clients, suppliers, and contractors 
  •  Support project execution through cost control, scheduling, and quality assurance 
  •  Resolve field design and constructability issues through site visits and technical guidance 
Required Qualifications

  •  Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred) 
  •  Professional Engineer (PE) license required 
  •  20+ years of industrial experience across sectors such as chemical, petrochemical, polymer, or manufacturing (or 10+ years in consulting) 
  •  Strong expertise in structural design, including steel, concrete, and foundations 
  •  In-depth knowledge of applicable building codes and standards 
  •  Proven leadership and project management experience 
  •  Proficiency in tools such as AutoCAD, STAAD, STAAD Foundation, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office 
Additional Requirements

  •  Ability to provide professional seal for permitting processes 
  •  Willingness to perform fieldwork, including working at heights if required 
  •  Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills 
  •  Must be authorized to work in the U.S. (H-1B transfer may be considered) 
  •  Willingness to travel and work in a hybrid on-site environment 
  •  Valid driver’s license and ability to pass background and drug screening
