We are seeking a Solid Waste Specialist to support Fence-to-Fence tasks at Patrick Space Force Base. This role will predominately support the Solid Waste Program management tasks but will assist with other tasks as necessary.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This effort will include providing assistance in the proper management of regulated waste and the diversion, recycling, reuse, and upcycling of materials. The candidate must be able to provide creative solutions to developing programs that will encourage environmental compliance and meeting Patrick Space Force Base environmental goals. The successful candidate must be a comfortable public speaker and able to perform on a deadline.

  • Respond to audit requests and non-formalized inquiries from other government agencies regarding solid waste facilities and recycling activities.
  • Analyze cost-benefit data and research strategies for lowering customer and vendor costs
  • Collaborate with others to establish recycling, reduction and reuse options for waste streams.
  • Conducting benchmarking, process flow studies, waste stream analysis, and technology research in order to identify recycling and reuse opportunities and alternatives to disposal of solid waste streams at Patrick Space Force Base.
  • Provide support to Patrick Space Force Base landfill operations, composting, Moderate Risk Waste Facility, petroleum contaminated soils management, recycling, maintenance, construction and repair activities.
  • Provide training/educational presentation related to solid waste management.
  • Collect, analyze, and prepare data Federal, State regulatory, Space Force, and DoD solid waste and recycling reporting requirements.
  • Conduct field work for sampling.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or related field required and one year of related environmental experience.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of Department of Defense (DoD) preferred.
  • Motivated, outgoing self-starters requested.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a Federal agency background investigation.
  • Ability to work outdoors, in inclement weather, and occasionally during evenings and weekends.
