Job Description

JOB TITLE: BUS MECHANIC/CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  2. Have a minimum of five years mechanic experience, or three years experience as a mechanics helper in a school bus shop maintaining buses for pupil transportation, or a two year certificate from an automotive/diesel college.
  3. Must hold a valid Alabama Drivers license.
  4. Must hold or obtain a valid drivers license and school bus license.
  5. Must successfully maintain an Alabama School Bus Driver Physical Examination or DOT medical exam.

REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Transportation

JOB GOAL: To contribute to the safe and efficient operation of the Alabaster City Schools transportation department by the repair and maintenance of vehicles.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintains, repairs, and reconditions vehicular equipment.
  2. Maintains records as prescribed by ALSDE.
  3. Ensures that school bus safety inspections are conducted regularly and documented in accordance with standard and federal law and ALSDE regulations.
  4. Maintains an up-to-date inventory of mechanic supplies and equipment in the transportation department.
  5. Promote high standards of safety and good housekeeping practices.
  6. Be regular and punctual in attendance.
  7. Maintain confidentiality of all school system related business.
  8. Performs other job related assignments determined by Coordinator of Transportation and Assistant Superintendent of Operations.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policies on evaluation of personnel.
