The Physical Therapist Assistant provides physical therapy services in accordance with a written plan of care and under the advisement of a supervising Physical Therapist. Activities of this position are patient focused in accordance with physical therapy standards, physician orders, and affiliate policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
(20%)* Provides treatment techniques to facilitate and restore optimal functioning performance specific to physical therapist assistant’s patient care area.
Â
(20%)* Provides adequate feedback to Physical Therapist regarding patient’s progress and reports any unusual reaction or response to therapeutic program.
Â
(20%)* Documents the patient/family/caregiver response to treatment and changes in patient condition per affiliate documentation policies and/or standards and in compliance with regulatory agencies.
Â
(20%)* Completes daily documentation necessary for billing procedures per affiliate policy and in compliance with regulatory agencies.
Â
(20%)* Educates patient/family/caregiver in home education program using relevant and effective teaching methods.
Â
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrates effective oral and written communication with all internal and external customers to maximize quality of patient care including coordination with interdisciplinary team members.
Â
Promotes education and development among staff, students, and other health care providers using relevant and effective teaching methods.
Â
Promotes process improvement.
Â
Assists with program development.
Â
Provides feedback in team conferences and interdisciplinary meetings as appropriate.
Â
Promotes physical therapy within MyMichigan Health and service area, participating in and providing community education.

Under guidance of physical therapist, physical therapy assistant will facilitate communication between physical therapist and physician regarding changes in treatment regime.

Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.

Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).

Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.

Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.

Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.

Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.

Physical Demand Level: Medium. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 21-50 lbs., frequently 34-66% of the workday 20 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls and constantly (67-100% or the workday) 10 lbs.
