Job DetailsJob Location: Modoc Medical Center-Last Frontier Health District - ALTURAS, CA 96101Position Type: Full TimeEducation Level: High School/EquivalentSalary Range: $20.64 - $30.12 HourlyPOSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Clinic Manager, the Admitting Clerk is responsible for accurately registering patients, verifying insurance eligibility collecting co-pays verifies patient demographic and updates the information in the computer. This position is also responsible for pulling charts for the next scheduled business day.  This position description is intended to identify some of the duties and responsibilities of this position. MODOC MEDICAL CENTER reserves the right to modify, supplement, delete or augment the duties and responsibilities specified in this position description, at MODOC MEDICAL CENTER’S sole and absolute discretion. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: General Competencies: Always demonstrates a professional behavior and a positive working relationship with clients, visitors and facility staff. Deals tactfully with all types of individuals.  Respectfully to managers and supervisors. Demonstrates effective organizational ability and time management while remaining accountable. Serves as a preceptor for new staff as necessary.  Adheres to Modoc Medical Center policies and procedures.  Produces deliverable products on time, within budget with minimal direction. Performs all assigned tasks accurately. Maintains an organized set of records, delivers records immediately upon request, for the functions that are performed within the scope of this job. Must be able to work in a fast paced environment and prioritize to maintain optimum clinic workflow, maintaining patient confidentiality.  Demonstrates ability to effectively use office machines in the performance of job functions. Must be flexible to meet the needs of patients, providers, and co-workers.  Answers phone calls, assists public, and forwards appropriately if necessary in a professional and friendly manner. Demonstrates the ability to compile and organize data using Microsoft Office Applications. Ability to make appropriate recommendations or conclusions, given the data obtained. Must maintain confidentiality relating to all MMC Patients, including personnel. Specific Competencies: Attends staff meetings.  Utilizes facility procedure manuals or reference materials as appropriate.  Registers CHDP exams, Podiatry and SNF Clinic visits. Schedules podiatry visits and scans in referral forms for these visits. Checks patients in, gives new patient’s medical forms to complete, verifies patient demographics and updates information in computer programs. Pulls charts for next day’s appointments and distributes these to respective provider locations.  Verify insurance eligibility prior to each appointment, log eligibility response in Episode comments.  Collects co-payments/payments, writes receipt, balances petty cash, and process daily deposit log. Explains billing policies, refers patients without insurance to the financial counselor at the hospital.  Assist Partnership Health Plan members in obtaining special membership and facilitate Primary Care assignment to MMC. Processes Family PACT applications, and renewals. Creates charts for these visits, as necessary. Answers telephone in a professional and courteous manner: takes messages, medication refill requests and directs calls to appropriate staff members. Communicates appropriately, respectfully, and clearly to doctors, managers, and coworkers. Reviews weekly Communication Log from HRG, correct issues, and return in a timely manner.   Assists Scheduler with making appointments and serves as back up with that person is unavailable.  Performs all assigned tasks accurately. Maintains daily patient log. Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to do extra work as needed on an interim basis. May be cross-trained for other positions and may be required to work in those positions as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Professional Requirements: Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and professional. Completes annual education requirements if applicable. Maintains regulatory requirements. Wears identification while on duty. Attends annual evaluation and participates actively in this process. Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work in designated time. Attends all meetings as appropriate. Exhibits the mission, ethics and goals of Modoc Medical Center in the performance of job duties Performs other duties, as assigned.  WORKING CONDITIONS: Works with others, exposure to public/staff/providers, fast work pace, frequent changes and interruptions.  Willingness to work beyond normal working hours and in other position, temporarily when necessary. Is involved with client, personnel, visitors, and government agencies, etc., when necessary. Must function independently, have personal integrity, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with other personnel, clients and support agencies. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Sitting, standing, walking, bending/stooping, squatting/crouching, balancing, reaching, twisting/turning, pulling, standing up, and working on computer six to eight hours daily. Speaking/hearing on the phone and in person, reading, writing, close eye work. Repetitive motion of hands, fine and gross manipulation, up/down and side/side hand motion. Able to lift up to 25 pounds without assistance.   QualificationsPOSITION QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or equivalent. 1-3 years experience in a healthcare office preferred. Basic computer knowledge and proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Ability to type 40 words per minute. Ability to deal with people in a pleasant and courteous manner, even under stressful conditions. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language, have good grammar, spelling, and the ability to be accurate. Ability to work with others, at all levels within the organization, and collaborate effectively. Above-average interpersonal, problem-solving, and written and oral communication skills. Must be able to work in a fast paced environment and maintain patient confidentiality, and be flexible to meet the needs of patients and co-workers. Experience with billing and insurance preferred.
