Communicate effectively with patients, providers, and staff in a professional manner Demonstrate reliability, accountability, time management and ability to prioritize tasks Follow safety, infection control, and CLIA standards consistently Demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy in specimen collection, labeling, and documentation Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required Previous phlebotomy experience preferred Professional certification in phlebotomy from an accredited program preferred Current BLS Certification (Must obtain within 90 days of hire) Key Responsibilities Collect, label, and process specimens using proper identification and collection techniques Prepare patients for blood draws, explain procedures and address questions or concerns Assist MLS and MLT with testing procedures and workflow support as needed Maintain accurate and timely documentation in laboratory information systems Collect timed specimens and ensure adherence to specific testing requirements Maintain cleanliness and organization of phlebotomy and laboratory work areas Stock and replenish supplies; monitor inventory and assist with ordering as needed Assist with administrative tasks such as data entry, filing, faxing and phone calls Organize workload to prioritize STAT and urgent specimen collections. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area following infection control protocols. Ensure compliance with hospital accreditation standards, including utilization of SQSS (Strategic Quality Support System) for compliance tracking. Adhere to all hospital policy and procedure, follow HIPAA guidelines, available for duty in the event of a disaster, completes all required educational training and performs other job duties as assigned. Physical Requirements Frequent standing and walking throughout clinical areas for extended periods. Ability to assist with lifting, repositioning, transferring, or supporting patients. Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally and 25 pounds frequently. Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and kneeling while assisting patients or performing clinical tasks. Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to operate medical equipment, and document care. Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, and healthcare team members. Ability to visually read medical charts and operate clinical technology. Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations. Potential Hazards Exposure to hospital-related hazards including blood-borne pathogens, bodily fluids, infectious diseases, x-ray/electromagnetic energy, electric shock, and chemicals.
