As the fourth largest employer in Amarillo, our hospital has a medical staff of more than 450 physicians and about 3,000 employees.
     

Responsibilities

  • The prior authorization specialist is responsible for coordinating and processing prior authorizations as requested by providers.  
  • Obtains and processes initial prior authorizations and re-authorizations as required by insurance providers. 
  • Notifies patient of appointments and gives any instructions required for appointment. 
  • Enters insurance prior authorization documentation into the electronic health record. 
  • Communicates patient financial responsibility for healthcare services to patients and guarantors. 
  • Create and provide cost estimates for scheduled services and procedures. 
  • Collect deposits, copayments, deductibles, and other patient payments. 
  • Performs additional prior authorization responsibilities and clerical work as needed within the clinic. 

Qualifications

Job Requirements: 

  • High School (or GED equivalent) diploma. 
  • Prior experience in a customer service role. 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel. 

Preferred Job Requirements:  

  • Prior scheduling or prior authorization experience.
