General Duties

The Facilities Maintenance Technician performs skilled maintenance, repair, and renovation work throughout the college. Duties include:

  • Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical systems and associated hardware.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs HVAC equipment.
  • Installs, maintains, repairs, and renovates plumbing systems and fixtures.
  • Assists with facility renovation and carpentry projects.
  • Participates in the repair and maintenance of college equipment and vehicles.
  • Performs grounds maintenance activities, including installation and maintenance of landscaping.
  • Operates and maintains a variety of tools, materials, and equipment.
  • Maintains required maintenance records and logs.
  • Assists with the maintenance of fire alarm, sprinkler, and security systems.
  • Responds to emergency maintenance and repair requests.
  • Performs small engine repair and general equipment maintenance as needed.
  • Provides professional, customer-friendly service to students, employees, and visitors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of the mission, philosophy, and needs of South Georgia Technical College.

Education Requirements

High school diploma or GED and one (1) year of experience in a skilled trade, such as electrical, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, or general building maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of tools, equipment, materials, and practices used in building and grounds maintenance.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and HVAC system maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of small engine repair.
  • Skill in operating computers and job-related software.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lift, push, and carry heavy items.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply construction plans, specifications, and blueprints.

Preferred Qualifications

Five (5) years of experience within the past seven (7) years in commercial HVAC and refrigeration, commercial appliance repair, or a closely related skilled trade. Working knowledge of small engine repair and general vehicle maintenance is preferred. Proficiency in computers and job-related software systems is also preferred.

Compensation

Full-time position. Salary commensurate with education and experience.

Physical Requirements

Position requires frequent pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, and crouching and may require walking or standing for four (4) to eight (8) hours. Must have the ability to grip, hold, and turn objects and exert 50–100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 25–49 pounds of force frequently. Must possess near vision sufficient to see details at close range.
