Iowa State University is seeking applicants for a part-time Head Cheerleading Coach. The Head Cheerleading Coach is responsible for providing leadership, technical instruction, and program oversight to foster excellence in performance, safety, teamwork, and squad development while serving as a positive ambassador for Iowa State University Athletics.
Schedule:
Average 15 hours per week. The position works primarily in the evenings and on weekends and involves some travel, including overnight travel, for assigned competitions.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide instruction and training in cheerleading fundamentals, with an emphasis on proper technique, skill progression, and safety in stunting, tumbling, and performance execution.
- Provide leadership, oversight, and accountability for the cheerleading program aligned with departmental and institutional values.
- Plan, organize, and oversee practices and game-day performances to ensure high standards of execution, professionalism, and spirit promotion.
- Coordinate and conduct team tryouts and clinics, evaluate prospective members, and lead recruitment efforts.
- Maintain inventory of uniforms and equipment, controlling the distribution and return of ISU-issued property.
- Hire, train, and supervise evaluate part-time assistant coaches.
- Assist with annual fundraising initiatives.
This position requires comprehensive knowledge of cheerleading techniques, safety standards, and program administration, along with exceptional leadership, teaching, and communication skills. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment and effectively engaging with a diverse student population and community.
Candidates are expected to obtain Certification through USA Cheer Safety & Risk Management (or equivalent) within 90 days of hire and maintain ongoing safety certification during employment. Â
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Experience coaching collegiate or competitive cheer environments, including stunting training with spotting techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
- Collegiate coaching experience within Division I or a Power Four conference.
- Experience as a cheer team member at a collegiate program.
- Experience preparing teams for NCA/UCA College Nationals or similar national competitions
- Cheer safety certification.
