Job Description:

The Human Development and Family Studies in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Iowa State University seeks Assistant Teaching Professor applicants. Responsibilities include:

Teaching:

  • Provides professional academic services in Family & Consumer Education (FCEDS) and other departmental majors, works with students understanding their program progression and skill set development in the FCEDS program and other departmental majors, and teaches FCEDS courses.

  • Provides general support for the FCEDS program, including practicum placement logistics, stakeholder collaboration, student support, and alignment with licensure and program requirements.

Service:

  • Participates in student recruitment and retention events, supports departmental/college learning communities, committees, and advises student organizations. 

  • Attends FCS Related Professional organizations to advocate for FCEDS, such as ACTE/IACTE, FCCLA, IFCSE, AAFCS/IaAAFCS

 

Appointment renewal is possible and will be determined by performance and department need.

 

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.

 

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in FCS, Education, or a related field by Fall 2026

  • At least 5 years teaching to include 5-12 FCS experience 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years FCS teaching experience in grades 5-12

  • Eligible to be licensed to teach Secondary Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) in Iowa

  • Experience with student academic guidance and support

  • Experience advising students in student organizations such as FCCLA

  • Instructional coaching/mentoring/supervision experience preferred

  • Post-secondary experience 

  • Involvement in FCS professional associations
