Senior AccountantÂ
About the RoleÂ
The Senior Accountant takes on greater ownership of client engagements and complex accounting work, reviewing the work of Staff Accountants while managing their own workload across accounting, audit, and tax assignments. This position combines hands-on technical work with mentorship, serving as a key point of contact for clients and a resource for less experienced team members, with a clear path toward Manager as you continue to build your technical and leadership skills.Â
Key ResponsibilitiesÂ
- Plan, execute, and lead audit, review, and compilation engagementsÂ
- Review journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger work prepared by Staff AccountantsÂ
- Prepare and review complex individual and business tax returnsÂ
- Research and apply technical accounting and tax guidance to client-specific issuesÂ
- Manage multiple client engagements simultaneously, including budgets and deadlinesÂ
- Supervise, train, and mentor Staff Accountants and internsÂ
- Identify and help maintain internal controls, flagging risk areas for clientsÂ
- Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients, building and maintaining strong relationshipsÂ
- Communicate engagement status, findings, and recommendations to Managers and PartnersÂ
QualificationsÂ
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in AccountingÂ
- 3–6 years of relevant public accounting experience in audit and/or taxÂ
- CPA license, or actively pursuing CPA certification with progress toward completionÂ
- Demonstrated ability to review the work of others and provide constructive feedbackÂ
- Strong technical accounting knowledge (GAAP) and familiarity with relevant tax codeÂ
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with client-facing experienceÂ
- Working knowledge of accounting and tax software (e.g., QuickBooks, Microsoft Office; exposure to Thomson Reuters accounting suite/UltraTax is a plus)Â
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlinesÂ
- Willingness to travel to client locations within Western New York, as neededÂ
PreferredÂ
- Active CPA licenseÂ
- Prior experience supervising or mentoring staff-level accountantsÂ
- Industry experience in manufacturing, healthcare, real estate, or nonprofit clientsÂ
