Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled NC Programmer to join our Manufacturing Engineering team. This role is responsible for developing complex, high-precision CNC machining programs for aerospace structural components. The NC Programmer will work with challenging materials such as 7075 Aluminum, Titanium (6Al-4V), and Stainless Steel to produce flight-critical parts that meet strict quality standards while maximizing spindle uptime, tool life, and overall manufacturing efficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop, program, and optimize 3, 4, and 5 axis CNC milling programs using CATIA V5/V6 or equivalent high-end CAM software (e.g., NX, Mastercam).
- Create complete manufacturing documentation including setup sheets, tool lists, operation sequences, and process plans.
- Design and specify custom work-holding fixtures and select high-performance cutting tools for hard metals and high-speed aluminum machining.
- Manage part data, revisions, and configurations within the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system to maintain digital thread integrity.
- Perform machine simulations and program verification using VERICUT or similar software to ensure collision-free, efficient toolpaths.
- Provide shop floor support during First Article and production ramp-up by partnering with Machinists and Quality Engineers to troubleshoot and refine programs.
- Continuously improve cycle times, tool life, and machining strategies through process optimization.
- Other duties as assigned
Position Requirements
- 3 – 5+ years of professional NC programming experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment or a degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering with specialized CNC certification.
- Advanced knowledge of multi-axis machining principles, including vector programming and Tool Center Point Control (TCPC).
- Strong understanding of speeds, feeds, chip thinning, and cutting strategies for Titanium and Stainless Steel.
- Proficiency in CATIA NC Manufacturing or comparable CAM platforms such as NX or Mastercam.
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across engineering, machining, and quality teams.
- Team-oriented mindset with a focus on quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with High-Velocity Machining (HVM) of large aluminum structures.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Lean Six Sigma principles.
- Familiarity with AS9100 aerospace quality standards.
