ROLE PURPOSE

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Quality Inspector to join our AS9100-certified metal sheet and machine shop. The primary responsibility is to conduct visual and dimensional inspections of fabricated parts and assemblies to ensure compliance with customer specifications, engineering drawings, internal standards, and AS9100 requirements. The role involves basic dimensional inspection and focuses on detecting surface defects, weld integrity, form features, cosmetic finish, and general workmanship.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform visual inspections of sheet metal and machined components to identify defects, including cracks, dents, warping, burrs, corrosion, and pitting.
  • Perform dimensional inspections of fabricated and machined metal parts to verify accuracy, quality, and adherence to blueprint specifications.
  • Evaluate surface condition for finish quality, discoloration, damage, contamination, and other nonconformities.
  • Use precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, protractors, and go/no-go gauges. 
  • Verify that parts meet required cosmetic standards and overall workmanship specifications.
  • Perform dimensional inspections using a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) to ensure product quality and compliance with specifications.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, work orders, quality plans, and customer specifications.
  • Verify proper identification, traceability, and part marking per AS9100 and customer requirements.
  • Identify and document non-conformances; generate NCRs and report issues to Quality or Production Supervisors.
  • Perform in-process and final inspection on parts and assemblies before shipment.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective action investigations.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records, checklists, and logs as required by AS9100 and internal procedures.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, and quality teams to improve product quality and resolve issues.
  • Ensure tools, gauges, and equipment used for visual inspections are properly maintained and calibrated when necessary.
  • Support internal and external audits as required.
  • Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong knowledge of visual/dimensional inspection techniques for metal fabrication, machine components, painted parts, and assemblies.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, basic GD&T, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Basic CMM experience is a plus.
  • Experience performing dimensional inspections of fabricated and machined metal parts to ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance with blueprint specifications.
  • Working knowledge of aerospace industry standards is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience using calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring tools to verify part dimensions and confirm accuracy in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and well-developed observational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Windows-based software applications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • While performing the duties of this position in a metal manufacturing environment, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands and fingers to handle, operate, or feel materials and tools, reach with hands and arms, and communicate effectively by talking and listening.
  • The employee is occasionally required to lift materials, climb, and maintain balance while performing production tasks.
  • Frequent walking, bending, lifting, and reaching are required throughout the work shift in a production setting.
  • Must be able to safely lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • This role requires specific visual abilities, including close vision, to ensure accuracy and quality in metal fabrication and inspection tasks. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe footwear, and other PPE as required.
  • Exposure to noise, dust, metal shavings, and occasional sharp objects. 
  • The employee may occasionally be exposed to risks of electrical shock. 
  • Work environment may include exposure to moving mechanical parts, humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, metal burrs and chips, and potential chemical irritants such as water-based coolants, hydraulic oils, degreasing agents, and mineral spirits. 
  • The employee may occasionally be exposed to extreme cold or heat conditions. 
  • Noise levels in the work environment are typically loud, requiring appropriate hearing protection. 
  • Exposure to hazardous equipment may occur on a weekly basis, requiring strict adherence to safety procedures and protocols.
