Role Purpose

The Spot Welder is responsible for performing resistance spot welding operations on precision sheet metal components and assemblies in accordance with engineering drawings, customer specifications, and quality standards. This position supports aerospace, defense, commercial, and industrial manufacturing operations by ensuring high-quality welds, production efficiency, and compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.

Scope & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform resistance spot welding operations on sheet metal components and assemblies according to engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions
  • Set up and operate spot welding equipment and related production machinery
  • Set up, identify, and change welding tips per part requirements
  • Maintain electrodes and spot-welding equipment to ensure proper functionality and weld consistency
  • Perform peel tests and related inspections to verify spot weld button acceptance and quality requirements
  • Inspect welded assemblies to ensure compliance with customer specifications and company quality standards
  • Read and interpret blueprints, spot weld symbols, manufacturing travelers, and technical documents
  • Verify dimensions and tolerances using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauges, rulers, and related inspection tools
  • Maintain production efficiency while ensuring high-quality workmanship
  • Identify and report defects, equipment malfunctions, or process concerns to supervisors or maintenance personnel
  • Maintain accurate production and inspection records as required
  • Follow all company safety procedures, quality standards, and manufacturing policies
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas in support of 5S and workplace safety initiatives
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and team production goals
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production personnel to resolve manufacturing and quality issues
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on business needs

Work Experience & Skills

Education

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Technical training or welding certification preferred

Experience

  • Previous spot welding or sheet metal manufacturing experience preferred
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or precision manufacturing environments preferred
  • Experience working within AS9100 or ISO-regulated manufacturing environments preferred

Skills / Knowledge

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, work instructions, and technical documents
  • Basic knowledge of resistance spot welding processes and manufacturing practices
  • Familiarity with AWS welding standards and quality systems preferred
  • Experience using precision measuring tools such as calipers, gauges, rulers, and inspection equipment
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team-oriented environment
  • Knowledge of workplace safety practices and PPE requirements

Working Conditions

  • Manufacturing and production floor environment
  • Exposure to welding equipment, moving machinery, industrial noise, sparks, heat, and metal materials
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, welding protection, and hearing protection as applicable

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds as needed
  • Frequent use of hands, repetitive motions, bending, stooping, and reaching
  • Visual acuity, with or without correction, required for inspection and welding activities
