Job Description The description of tasks is not intended to outline every last detail of the custodian’s position. It will serve to give a general impression of the duties relating to the job. Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming. Service, clean, or supply restrooms. Clean windows, glass partitions, or mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, or squeegees. Gather and empty trash. Notify principal concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems. Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures. Dust furniture, walls, machines, or equipment. Clean and polish furniture and fixtures. Requisition supplies or equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties. Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications. Move heavy furniture, equipment, or supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks. Set up, arrange, or remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, or scaffolding to prepare facilities for events, such as banquets or meetings. Clean laboratory equipment, such as glassware or metal instruments, using solvents, brushes, rags, or power cleaning equipment. Other duties as needed QualificationsSKILLS are required to perform multiple, non-technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: Using custodial supplies. KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; read and follow instructions; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: Knowledge of custodial supplies; knowledge of cleaning methods and techniques. ABILITY is required to schedule activities; gather and/or collate data; and consider a variety of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. I
