Compensation & Hours: $65,000-$72,000 DOE, Full time position with paid wellness time and 4-day work week, generous PTO, healthcare coverage & retirement benefits

Location: Anchorage/Southcentral preferred, Hybrid

AKPIRG is seeking a full-time Energy Policy Analyst to lead research and analysis on energy policies and regulations in Alaska. The ideal candidate is a skilled researcher and engaging communicator who can navigate complex regulatory systems, analyze policy solutions, and advocate publicly toward a larger vision of sustainable, equitable, and affordable energy across Alaska.  They will be curious, responsive to a fast-paced regulatory environment while maintaining integrity and quality, navigate setbacks with resilience and attentive to the role of systems of oppression in energy affordability.

The AKPIRG Energy team strives to demystify Alaska’s energy system for a community-led energy future. We work to empower Alaskans, strengthen transparent and accountable government, and advance policies that best serve the public interest. 

The AKPIRG Energy Policy Analyst position will support this mission through: 

• Research and analysis of energy policies and regulations impacting both rural and railbelt communities (with attention to affordability, transparency, public interest, equity, decolonization, etc)
• Advocacy at the federal level, state legislature, regulatory bodies, and other other energy-related venues
• Development of AKPIRG stances and strategy for affordable and reliable energy (e.g. utility rate stabilization, renewable energy integration, etc)
• Nurturing dynamic working relationships with stakeholders, partners, legislators, the public, and staff
• Other activities as directed

Primary duties may include things like:

• Researching and drafting policy briefs on Alaska energy issues
• Researching energy infrastructure projects and assessing cost, reliability and community impact
• Serving as the primary point of contact and liaison for stakeholders on key issues
• Writing and submitting public comments to regulatory bodies
• Preparing and giving legislative testimony
• Tracking and evaluating energy-related policies and bills
• Advising on legal and regulatory strategy 
• Analyzing utility filings, rate cases and Integrated Resource Plans and translating technical data into digestible summaries
• Working with energy team, partners and allies on shared energy-related campaigns
  
  

Required Qualifications:

• Commitment to AKPIRG values of decolonization, equity, and transparency
• Interest in Alaska Energy issues
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal for a range of audiences)
• Ability to independently manage a high volume of work with efficiency and effective prioritization
• Ability to work as a part of a team cohesively
  
  

Preferred Qualifications (not required, but please be sure to let us know if you carry any of these):

• Prior knowledge or experience in energy issues, professionally or through lived experience navigating inequities in energy access
• Law degree or legal background
• Legislative Experience
• Technical knowledge of energy infrastructure
• Demonstrated skill in researching, synthesizing and distilling complex information for diverse audiences
• Existing meaningful experience and relationships with rural and/or railbelt communities and energy stakeholders
